IEX-16L Input Expander

Issue:
I have connected the IEX-16L to the direct outputs of my mixing console but every time the front of house mixer makes a change to the faders, it affects the level of that channel in the myMix system.

Resolution:
Check  that the direct outputs on every channel are configured as pre-fader. If they are post-fader, the level coming out of the direct output will be affected by any level changes the front of house mix engineer makes. If there are available insert points, you may want to use those instead as they are normally pre-fader and pre-EQ. (See IEX16 user manual for details).

Issue:
I connected the IEX-16L to the direct outputs of my mixing console, but the signals are lacking low frequency, and the levels in the myMix system are loweven though I am clipping the IEX-16L input meters.

Resolution:
Check the wiring of the mixing console you are using and make sure that the direct outputs are wired balanced to the DB25- if they are unbalanced the "-" of the DB25 needs to be connected to ground. (see IEX16 user manual page 8 for details).

Issue:
I connected a myMix unit to an IEX-16L but do not see the channels coming from the IEX16L on the myMix screen.

Resolution:
Make sure all devices are on the most current firmware version. This typically happens when a myMix in on a firmware version less than 1.33 as these versions were developed before the existence of the IEX-16L.

Issue:
I have a myMix system with an IEX-16L and several myMix. The channel signal levels are very low in every unit.

Resolution:
The signals coming into an IEX-16L should be set just below clipping on the unit. If signals being fed into the unit are low, then the result will be low channel levels in the system.

Issue:
When I first connect the IEX-16L to myMix, I only see eight odd numbered channels on the myMix screen.

Resolution:
The IEX-16L has a factory default channel configuration of all pairs being in stereo. As the stereo pairs in an IEX-16L take the name of the left channel, you will see only odd numbered channels on the screen. Additionally, stereo channels only appear as one “fader” on myMix units even though the audio is split left and right in the system, which is why you see eight instead of sixteen. To change the channel configuration in the IEX-16L, follow the procedure in the manual.

myMix

Issue:
I updated the firmware of the myMix and rebooted. It is stuck on the myMix logo screen.

Resolution:
We have had random reports of this issue which is resolved by downloading the Cleaner file from the Firmware Updates section of www.mymixaudio.com. Place the two .blob files on a freshly formatted SD card and perform another firmware update on the affected units. This should take much less time than a normal firmware update. Reboot the myMix. You should see the firmware version that you installed prior to running the Cleaner file.

Issue:
I recorded to an SD card, but on playback the audio skips and is sometimes distorted.

Resolution:
If you record to an unformatted SD card you will experience these symptoms. Make sure you format new SD cards before recording. If you have been using the SD card in another type of system (camera, printer, computer, etc.) we suggest you format the card as well.

Issue:
I have several myMix in a system, and everyone is using different headphones or in-ear monitors. The overall level in my headphones is very low compared to others.

Resolution:
Check the specifications of the impedance and sensitivity of your headphones with the manufacturer. As virtually all headphones have different specifications, everyone will have different results. We recommend headphones with an impedance of 50 ohms or less and a sensitivity of 100dB of more.

Issue:
I plugged in a condenser microphone to the local inputs of myMix, but there is no audio

Resolution:
Condenser microphones require phantom power. Make sure you have enabled phantom power on your myMix under Settings – Inputs.

Issue:
I use 16 channels from an IEX16 on my myMix. Sometimes I can see channels dissappear. When I reboot the myMix they do come back and might stay.

Resolution:
That indicates an issue with the CAT5 cable to this myMix. From the 4 twisted pairs in a CAT5, 2 are used for power (POE), one for sending the other for receiving data. If on pair is slightly damaged it can cause just a channel pair to drop. If the channel drop happens to all myMix at the same time, the cable for the IEX16 should be checked.

Switches - Network

Issue:
I bought one of the Cisco switches you recommend from a third party. I plugged it into the system and while I can see all of the channels, but I don’t hear any audio.

Resolution:
If you decide to source and configure your own Cisco switches, make sure you closely follow the instructions we provide on our website. On a myMix system, the audio travels on the second VLAN. The symptoms described indicate that second VLAN hasn’t been configured properly.

Issue:
We’re using an inexpensive, unmanaged switch with our myMix system. We have 16 channels coming from an IEX-16L, and we are also using the two local inputs from one of our myMix units (for a total of 18 channels on the network). We are getting random distortion on some myMix units.

Resolution:
Any more than 16 channels of audio on an inexpensive unmanaged switch can overload the network resources the switch has available. A common symptom of an overlloaded  switch is distortion appearing randomly on the system. To adequately accommodate more than 16 channels on a myMix network you will need to use a managed switch with IGMP snooping, configured for myMix.

Issue:
I have configured one of the recommended Cisco switches myself and it was working fine - however when I used the system the next day it didn't work.

Resolution:
The configuration file for the switch needs to be in "Start Up configuration" of the switch. Depending on the firmware version of the switch you either need to save the running config to the start up config, or simply reboot - for deztails please see our configuration instructions

Issue:
We are using 2 of the recommended Cisco switches but only see the channels of the units connected to one switch.

Resolution:
When using multiple switches they all need to have a unique IP address. Instructions on how to change the IP address you'll find in the instruction sheet that comes with the configuration files ( details)
